Ko Naomi Toilalo ahau – I am Naomi Toilalo.

Welcome to my kāuta (kitchen), where I share delicious recipes and my kete of te reo Māori (basket of the Māori language). I have been sharing bi-lingual recipes and videos on my Whānaukai Instagram and Facebook page for the past five years. Whānaukai is a casual joining together of two common words in te reo Māori. Whānau means family and kai means food. When whānau and kai come together memories are made and people are blessed. This is what I hope for you all.

Through this website, I present to you an easy way to access my content in one beautiful space. You will find in-depth recipes and videos that will guide you through the process of baking the things I love. On top of that, I will teach you little snippets of te reo Māori because I yearn for the preservation of our beautiful language here in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Nau mai, whakatau mai nei ki tōku kāuta – welcome to my kitchen. I am so glad you are here!

Kia ora e te iwi! What a day 🙄, one of our girl Kia ora e te iwi! What a day 🙄, one of our girls broke her arm (a second time) after only 20 minutes of kura (school). 🧐 So, it has been a long day of waiting in the hohipera (hospital). In amongst it all though I was able to get this fun new recipe out for you all.

Last week I showed you the fun recipes I made for @barkersofgeraldine and they have kindly let me add the lemon and strawberry thumbprint recipe to my website too. To top it off I wanted to show a little extra step you can take with the recipe. Why do we add meringue you may ask? Why not?!? 🤣 Sometimes we can do things just because! 😏

This recipe is perfect without any decoration for anyone who wants a little bit of food play in their day, I have catered for you too. 🫶🏼

This recipe is on my website and you can access it through this link: https://whanaukai.nz/lemon-and-strawberry-jam-drops-thumbprint-cookies/

You can also type RŌPERE or STRAWBERRY in the comments and I can send you the recipe. This can be a bit slow as I manually do it now but I will eventually get it to you 🥰.

Kia ora e hoa mā - hello friend! Here is another Kia ora e hoa mā - hello friend!
Here is another no bake, gluten and dairy free slice for you all. This one is one my hubby's favourites! You can make it in to a slice or spread it on to a tray to make it in to a bark that snaps in to pieces.

You can type NATI or NUTS and I'll send the recipe manually to your DMs or just head straight to my website and you can find it there under slices or no-bake! 🫶🏼🫶🏼

E te iwi, @barkersofgeraldine have launched a new E te iwi, @barkersofgeraldine have launched a new range of Squeezy Fruit Preserves and it is epic! 🍑🍓🫐 We have been using them in our whare over the past couple of weeks and we love them. There are four delicious flavours, and I came up with some simple recipe ideas for you to try in your whare.

How would you use them? Let me know in the comments.

You can find these recipes on Barkers.co.nz 👌🏼

PAREHE TĪHI - CHEESE PIZZA inspired by Southland PAREHE TĪHI - CHEESE PIZZA inspired by Southland Cheese Rolls. This is an old recipe that needed a little bit of tweaking. I made it over the weekend and it brings me so much joy when I eat this with all the nostalgia that it brings. I can't wait for you all to try it.

I can send you the recipe to your DMs if you want to. I am not using the automated system anymore so it might be a bit slower that usual 😄. If you want me to type PAREHE or PIZZA in to the comments and I will send it you way.

It can also be found on my website with a full recipe and step by step video. Here is the link: https://whanaukai.nz/homemade-cheese-and-onion-pizza/

Have you had a Southland Cheese Roll before?
E te iwi, I have showed you these BRIE STUFFED HON E te iwi, I have showed you these BRIE STUFFED HONEY MUSTARD CHEESE SCONES a couple of times but I thought they should be front and centre with another long weekend on the way here in Aotearoa. A savoury alternative if you are gathering together to remember during Anzac Day.
Kia maumahara tonu tātou i a rātou - We will remember them.

Just a note, I have unsubscribed to the automated system that sends you the recipes (it got too expensive) but I will trial sending it to you manually. It won't be automated so it will naturally take me longer. If it is too hōhā (annoying), I won't to do on the next recipe. 😁😁

So, with that in mind, type TAKAKAU or SCONE in to the comments if you want the recipe.

Otherwise, you can find this full recipe and step by step video on my website, in the bread section. Facebook whānau, you can access it through this link: https://whanaukai.nz/brie-stuffed-scones-with-honey-mustard/
