Ko Naomi Toilalo ahau – I am Naomi Toilalo.

Welcome to my kāuta (kitchen), where I share delicious recipes and my kete of te reo Māori (basket of the Māori language). I have been sharing bi-lingual recipes and videos on my Whānaukai Instagram and Facebook page for the past five years. Whānaukai is a casual joining together of two common words in te reo Māori. Whānau means family and kai means food. When whānau and kai come together memories are made and people are blessed. This is what I hope for you all.

Through this website, I present to you an easy way to access my content in one beautiful space. You will find in-depth recipes and videos that will guide you through the process of baking the things I love. On top of that, I will teach you little snippets of te reo Māori because I yearn for the preservation of our beautiful language here in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Nau mai, whakatau mai nei ki tōku kāuta – welcome to my kitchen. I am so glad you are here!

Kia ora e hoa mā, my girls and I whipped up these Kia ora e hoa mā, my girls and I whipped up these pihikete tiakarete - chocolate biscuits yesterday. These are actually the base cookie for my Buckeye Cookies and Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies. I love both of those recipes but we were making around 80 pihikete (biscuits) to share with our whānau at the whānau farm today so we wanted a quick option. @gemmabradfield

💗 This is my icing hack for you all, instead of making a ganache or buttercream just use one piece of tiakarete (chocolate) and let it melt on to the hot cookie. The result is so delicious with the fudgy cookie with no extra dishes to clean up afterwards.

💗 We used a mixture of 50% dark chocolate and peanut butter milk chocolate. Both worked so well.

💗 This icing hack always works perfectly on top of hot cupcakes or muffins as well - we do it all the time. 🥰

💗 If you want the biscuit recipe just type COOKIE or PIHIKETE and I'll send you the Buckeye cookie recipe to your DMs and you can use the recipe from there.

E te iwi, nō mātou ko tōku whānau i Whakatū, E te iwi, nō mātou ko tōku whānau i Whakatū, i haere ki te pokapū o Pic's - When our whānau were in Nelson we went to the Pic's hub.

It was inspiring hearing the kōrero behind this awesome pakihi (business). Such a fun little tour to do with the whānau! 💗💗

I also wanted to take this moment and knowledge the @picspeanutbutter team. They were one of the first businesses to approach me in the baby stages of Whānaukai, to collaborate and create recipes for them. I am so grateful for their tautoko (support) over the years. 🥹🥹 Also, watch this space as we have some fresh collabs coming in over the next six months! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
